Can Do Kangaroo
Making a MindsetHere at The Federation of Newent Schools we are keen to not only equip the children with the knowledge and skills needed to progress in life but also the mindset that allows them to really succeed.
With the introduction of our school mascot ‘Can Do Kangaroo’ the children are learning to develop a positive learning attitude that they can apply to all aspects of school and beyond.
Can Do believes in 5 key learning beliefs:
- Everyone Can Do Maths
- Questions are important to help us learn
- Mistakes help us to grow our brain
- Perseverance and resilience help us to overcome challenges
- Depth is more important than speed
Beginning in 2018, our Can Do Kangaroo mantra was shared, chanted, learnt and embedded across all groups. We begun by initially introducing this in maths as this was an area that we found that children had the most insecurities, lacking self-belief and resilience.
After only a term it was clear that not only did the children know the beliefs but they were able to apply them themselves and identify them within others within the classroom.
Already children are achieving more, persevering with challenge and most impressively applying the beliefs beyond mathematics!
